Chevrolet Donates 24 Express Vans to Habitat for Humanity

Two dozen Express vans donated by Chevrolet to Habitat for Humanity depart Atlanta today en route to storm-ravaged New York and New Jersey, where the vans and scores of tools donated by Lowe’s and the Robert Bosch Tool Co. will be put to work helping communities recover from Hurricane Sandy.

The vans are the latest contribution by Chevrolet, General Motors and the GM Foundation to Sandy relief efforts that now total more than $2.8 million.

“As the initial reports of Sandys devastation recede from the headlines, now the hard work of recovery begins to help affected communities and people get back on their feet,” said GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson. “The Chevy Express vans are the just the right vehicles to carry the people and tools to get the job done."

On October 30, GM announced the donation of 30 Express cargo vans, five Express passenger vans, five Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid SUVs and 10 Chevrolet Traverse crossovers to the American Red Cross.

A hotter Chevrolet Sonic is about to sound off - the 2013 Sonic RS. It goes on sale in late 2012, after making its public debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.

The new RS amplifies the Sonics youthful style and driving experience with unique exterior and interior features matched with a 138-horsepower (103 kW) Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine. Sonic is the only vehicle in its segment to offer a turbocharged powertrain.

The Chevrolet Sonic RS is offered exclusively in the five-door body style. Chevrolets exclusive MyLink infotainment system is standard. It enables navigation directions downloaded through a smart phone to be shown on the radios large display, and offers the personalized connectivity of Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio.

The more-aggressive look of the Chevrolet Sonic RS is inspired by the concept that debuted in Detroit in 2010. The Sonic RS will be available in Victory Red, Summit White, Cyber Gray Metallic and Black Granite Metallic, which is a new exterior color for the 2013 Sonic.

One of the most-dramatic cues from the concept carried into the production model is the Chevrolet Sonic RSs front fascia, which has a deep air dam design that enhances the cars road-hugging stance. Vertical intakes at the edges of the fascia reinforce the wide, low proportion and house the fog lamps.

The Chevrolet Sonic RSs interior is a connected environment, with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment seven-inch color touch screen radio. This system allows customers to bring customized music libraries into the vehicle and use their smart phones and Bluetooth connectivity to access Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio and navigation. Navigation directions downloaded through a smart phone can be displayed on the screen and, when the vehicle is stopped, users can project video and even personal photo albums onto the screen from their phone.

The Sonic RS is powered by a standard Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine that is rated at 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm) - and provides an immediate feeling of power that is sustained across the rpm band, for a greater feeling of performance at lower rpm. Its matched with a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic.

Unique gear ratios for the six-speed manual transmission and unique final drive ratio for the automatic give the Chevrolet Sonic RS a sportier feel than non-RS models.

Complementing the segment-exclusive turbocharged powertrain is MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bar, and a semi-independent, torsion beam axle-mount compound link-type rear suspension - featuring a robust, tubular V-shape beam - with gas-charged shocks. The front and rear tracks are identical at 59.4 inches (1,509 mm), for well-planted stability and balance.

The new RS is the only Sonic model offered with four-wheel disc brakes, which are partnered with a four-channel anti-lock braking system. The four-sensor system - one at each wheel - incorporates electronic brake force distribution, which balances braking performance based on such factors as road conditions and the weight of passengers and/or cargo.

Electric power steering is standard and features a wear compensator that continually adjusts the system interaction with the steering gear to ensure precise steering action over the life of the system.

The Chevrolet Sonic is offered in two body styles: a four-door sedan and a five-door, with a starting price of $14,495 (including destination charge). Each body style delivers class-leading, rear-seat roominess and cargo space. Vehicle highlights:

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Cabrio rendered

The very first rendering with the new Chevrolet Corvette generation in the drop-top version has recently hit the web and it might offer us a first glimpse into what the model will look like.

Chevrolet didn’t confirm a convertible version of the new Corvette generation but judging by the latest images which appear to have leaked the drop-top variant and this rendering signed by theophiluschin.com we can definitely say that the interest in the model is high and Chevy might consider putting it into production. If the Corvette Convertible will get the green light for production then it will most likely share the whole design of the Coupe, except, of course, for the roof, which will probably be fabric.

The Chevrolet Corvette Cabrio will get the same engine under the hood as its brother, the LT1 6.2 liter V8, with CVVT (continuously variable valve timing) and direct injection, which is producing a total output of 450 BHP (336 kW) and it has a peak torque of 609 Nm (450 lb-ft). The 0 to 60 mph sprint will take approximately 4 seconds. Additional details on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Cabrio remain unknown for the moment and it is yet to be confirmed whether or not the model will hit the production line.

GM has unveiled the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado ahead of its global public debut scheduled to take place at the Bangkok International Auto Show.
The 2012 Chevrolet Colorado is a midsize pickup truck featuring an extended cab body sitting on a high-stance AWD chassis, uses 20 inch wheels wrapped around off-road tires, and extracts power from a 2.8-litre turbo diesel plant for which output remains unspecified.
In terms of design the Colorado resonates with strength due to its wide, high positioned body that appears tightly wrapped over the chassis, and besides the Pepperdust Metallic exterior paint highlighted by various polished aluminum accents, the new pickup is also featuring GMs dual-port grille, a pair of large headlamps, integrated side steps, full LED taillights., and LED turn signals on the outside mirrors.

INTERIOR
The interior will combine the best of Chev designs, with the Thai pickup bearing a striking interior look to the Camaro, complete with twin pod instrument panel and meaty steering wheel with redundant controls for audio and Bluetooth. The centrestack looks very familiar to Chevy truck owners, with the typical radio over a round cabin temperature control centre. The dash is topped by a covered bin.

Colorado is based on a new global midsized truck architecture developed in Brazil, with local engineers tailoring the truck to fit the individual markets.
“Chevrolet Colorado Chief Engineer Roberto Rempel and his team lived in Thailand during the Colorado’s development,” said Brad Merkel, global vehicle line executive. “They immersed themselves in the highly competitive truck market and observed how the Thai people use their vehicles and the driving conditions they experience.

The drive was smooth, and the engine pushed out 150 brake horsepower at 3,800 rpm with a generous 258 pounds-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. The Colorado rode surprisingly well, and handling at speeds approaching 70 mph was fine.
It soaked up bumps and did well on gravel roads, with the rack-and-pinion steering returning a good feel and firm feedback, just like in an SUV. To get an SUV-like ride on the highway, the Colorado’s frame was designed to take more stiffness by using bigger cabin mounts and tunable torsion bars that are biased for a smoother ride — something GM had been criticized for on earlier small pickups.
The clutch was fairly light, so when we reached the tight and twisty section of the drive up to the Thai-Burmese border, there was little effort to keep the momentum going as we rowed the gears from 2nd to 3rd and back to 2nd. The 2.5-liter diesel had ample power, so we never needed to downshift more than one gear.

Torque felt strong and seemed to be delivered early the power band, and with the new suspension setup, we did not need to slow down much at sharp corners. The rear brakes are still drums, but we found the pickup’s capability plenty strong enough to stop us confidently as we drove down steep hills without any fuss.

Contrasting trim used with the light-colored leather seating, dark wood trim accented with chrome and low-gloss and soft-touch materials are used throughout for a premium feel. A number of storage compartments are located throughout the interior, including a covered center bin for concealment of valuable items, and a large, dual glovebox.

Additional features include a dual-zone, digital climate control system and the latest in “infotainment” technology.
