Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner

- Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner, 2013
Bentley will unveil a highly distinctive and sporting interpretation of the Mulsanne at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The new Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification blends a range of striking design features including unique 21-inch alloy wheels, Bentley Flying B wing vents and Diamond Quilted leather trimmed cabin with driver-selectable, sports-tuned suspension and steering, underscoring the performance credentials of Bentleys 6.75 litre V8 ultra-luxury sports saloon.
At the same time, Bentley also announces the introduction of two new options for the Mulsanne range: a large tilt-opening, tinted glass sunroof and an exquisitely designed, electrically operated bottle cooler complete with hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal champagne flutes.
Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification
The Mulsanne is a pure example of the Grand Touring Bentley combining coach-built elegance and hand crafted luxury with immense power and sportiness that together offer the worlds most exclusive driving experience. It is a luxury car that makes the joy of driving its central focus. In an era of mass production, it stands at the pinnacle of British luxury motoring.
With a 0-60 mph sprint time of just 5.1 seconds (0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds) and a top speed of 184 mph (296 km/h) the 505 bhp (512 PS/377 kw) Mulsanne has always offered thunderous levels of performance for an ultra-luxury saloon. Now, for customers seeking an even sportier look, feel and character to their Mulsanne, Bentley is introducing the Mulliner Driving Specification.
The Mulsannes beautifully balanced proportions convey a unique sense of dynamism and movement. These are reinforced by muscular haunches and sharply sculpted, gracefully flowing lines, hinting at the phenomenal levels of power and torque that are in reserve at all times.
For the Mulliner Driving Specification, new 21-inch, light aluminium alloy wheels with race-derived, titanium fasteners, bright-finished rims and 265/40 ZR21 tyres, underscore the Mulsannes potent yet elegant stance while providing even more dynamic handling. Available in both painted and polished finishes, the 2-piece wheels are exclusive to the Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification and are also compatible with Bentleys optional self-levelling wheel badges.
The Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification also has a unique design language which underscores its sporting character, setting it apart from other Bentleys.
The sporting motif is emphasised by a pair of sweeping wing vents made from cast, polished stainless steel. The vents cleverly emulate Bentleys iconic Flying B emblem which is engraved with the Mulliner script. The flowing appearance accentuates the impression of speed and movement and the black matrix grille integrated into the design provides an attractive contrast to the polished stainless steel.
For the new sportier Mulsanne, the Drive Dynamics Control system, which allows suspension and steering systems to be tuned to a preferred driving style, now has a unique Sport setting. Operated by the rotary switch mounted next to the gearshift selector, the new Sport settings provide enhanced grip, body control and steering accuracy without compromising ride comfort.
Inside the Mulsannes sumptuous cabin Bentleys styling team have created a bespoke, driver-focussed look and feel for the Mulliner Driving Specification. In keeping with the tradition of sporting Bentleys, the leather hide on the front and rear seats and door casings features an intricate Diamond Quilting pattern, complemented by an indented leather headlining.
A new and bespoke hide perforation process, developed specifically for the Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification, produces perforations in exact diamond shapes with non-perforated tramlines in between. This allows Bentleys seamstresses to produce perfect stitching every time without risk of distortion and means that it can now be combined with the optional seat ventilation system.
Throughout the cabin, Crewes craftsmen and women have ensured that even purely functional controls are beautifully executed. The unique knurled or coined surface finish of the cool-metal interior door handles, Organ Stop air ventilation controls and gear lever provide a highly tactile experience while giving extra grip. The leather gear lever is also hand-finished with a Baseball-style cross stitch - another example of Bentleys famed attention to detail.
For confident, spirited driving, the accelerator and brake pedals of the Mulliner Driving Specification are made from drilled alloy. Beautifully crafted, each one of the raised grips on the pedals is individually polished. As a finishing touch to the cabin, Mulliner treadplate plaques are applied to the vertical surface of the driver and front passenger door sills.
In common with all Mulsannes, customers of the Mulliner Driving Specification have the opportunity to create a truly bespoke car from a palette of over 100 paint colours, a virtually limitless choice of unbleached premium quality veneers (with two marquetry options) and a selection of 22 leather hides.
Commenting on the new Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner Driving Specification, Alasdair Stewart, Bentleys Member of the Board for Sales and Marketing: "The Mulsanne represents the pinnacle of British motoring with unrivalled luxury and effortless performance. Now, the distinctly sporting accent of the new Mulliner Driving Specification provides an even greater degree of driving enjoyment without compromising the Mulsannes legendary comfort and refinement."
Exquisite bottle cooler and sunroof options introduced for all Mulsannes
In addition to the new Mulliner Driving Specification, Bentley is announcing enhancements to the specification of the Mulsannes optional feature specification. All Mulsanne modelsmay now be specified with an exquisitely detailed, Bentley-designed, luxury bottle cooler and rear cabin storage area with space for two full-size Champagne bottles in a canted position, allowing opened bottles to be placed back in the cooler.
With one touch of a button, the frosted glass door quietly slides open to reveal three hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal champagne flutes, displayed beautifully by the white LED accent lighting. These flutes have been exclusively created for Bentley by the renowned British designer, David Redman of London and echo the racing spoke design of the Mulsannes 21" 5-spoke Sports alloy wheel.
The flutes can be placed in the bespoke-design bright chrome holders that deploy from the centre seat cushion. These also adapt cleverly to work as normal cup holders when required. As is traditional at Bentley, the bottle cooler and flute holders are discreetly concealed when not in use and the elegant design of the cooling system means that no boot space is compromised.
The cabin of the Mulsanne is whisper-quiet, utilising the latest double-glazing and sound-proofing technologies to isolate it from the hectic world. However, should you want to let the outside in, there is now the option of a large tilt-opening, tinted glass sunroof in the front cabin. It floods the cabin with light and gives an extra dimension of space, providing additional ventilation while avoiding the security risk of open windows.
The ultra-slim sunroof mechanism retains the Mulsannes fast, sweeping roof profile with negligible effect on cabin headroom. To provide welcome shade on the hottest days, a colour-matched Alcantara blind closes quietly at the touch of a button.
Report C8 to go Radical with Mid Mounted V6 Corvette C7

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about General Motors plans for the new Corvette, dubbed C7, that will hit the market by 2012. Now, Autoweek is bringing news on the for the next major model change, the C8, thats expected to be released after 2016.
"That [the C7] will be the last of the traditional, old-style Corvettes," said an unnamed senior GM insider to AutoWeek.
The C8, which would have been the C7 if GM hadnt entered bankruptcy last year, is said to ditch the Corvettes trademark front-mounted, large-displacement V8 setup that has been used in all six generations (though the C1 was also offered with a six-cylinder unit) for a mid-engine layout with a turbocharged V6 powertrain.
The report adds that the C8 will also boast a lightweight alloy body and a more compact footprint.
The question we pose here is this: if the report turns out to be true, and taking into consideration the introduction of the new Camaro with its old-school muscle car charm, is GMs move to turn the page on the Corvette in the right direction?

Honda Crosstour Concept

- Honda Crosstour Concept, 2013
Honda unveiled the 2013 Crosstour Concept at the 2012 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), providing the first official glimpse of a more capable-looking exterior styling direction for the luxurious mid-size CUV. Set to go on sale in fall 2012, the Crosstours defined lines will resonate more clearly with the active consumers that form the largest portion of the premium crossover segment. The 2013 Crosstour V6 will feature improved fuel economy thanks to its new 6-speed automatic transmission, while both four-cylinder and V6 versions will benefit from a host of safety and visibility upgrades.
"Fueled by a combination of versatility, luxury, and efficiency, owners have demonstrated remarkable devotion to the Honda Crosstour," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The 2013 Crosstour Concept shows how Honda will strengthen the styling and add even more content to one of the most efficient offerings in the class."
Concept Design
The Honda Crosstour Concept features a more capable, SUV-like styling direction for Hondas mid-size crossover. A more aggressive and athletic front end, new contrasting moldings on the lower door garnish, and cleaner front and rear fascias anchored by the rugged look of finished sill plates provide more visual strength to the Crosstour Concept. Adding to the SUV-like stance, a new rear-fender finish helps give the Concept a more solidly planted appearance.
Up front, the new integrated foglamp treatment is complemented by a slotted finish beneath the headlights, which helps integrate the new, bolder grille. The revised tailgate sports a more horizontal design to add visual width to the sculpted lines at the rear of the Crosstour.
The Honda Crosstour Concept is coated in a fresh hue, similar to one of two new shades that will appear on the 2013 Crosstour. Anchoring the Crosstour Concept are unique 5-spoke 19-inch wheels, while the 2013 Honda Crosstour will feature new 18-inch alloy wheels.
Though not on display in the Honda Crosstour Concept, the luxurious interior of the Honda Crosstour will see even further refinement for 2013, including heavily revised trim materials, the addition of an 8-inch, in-dash information display, keyless ignition, and steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters on V6 models.
Advanced and Efficient Powertrains
The Crosstour will offer two powertrains for the 2013 model year: a re-engineered and more powerful 3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC, i-VTEC V6 engine, or a 2.4-liter i-VTEC inline four-cylinder engine. The 2013 Crosstour V6 models will feature a 6-speed automatic transmission and utilize Honda Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology to achieve class-leading V6 fuel economy along with an overall improvement in fuel economy compared to the outgoing model. Also available on Crosstour EX-L V6 models is Hondas Real Time 4WDTM system, which sends power to all four wheels when front-wheel slippage is detected.
The four-cylinder Crosstour models are powered by a 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC® engine producing 192 horsepower at 7,000 RPM and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 RPM. To maximize efficiency, a 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control is standard equipment.
Safety and Technology Innovations
The 2013 Crosstour will introduce numerous new safety features, and is targeted to earn top scores in the federal governments New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The next Crosstour will be available with Hondas Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) technology. Both systems use a camera mounted behind the windshield to alert drivers if the car is moving unexpectedly out of its lane or to warn drivers of a potential collision in front of them.
The 2013 Crosstour will provide a host of visibility enhancements, and will be one of the first models to receive the Honda-exclusive LaneWatch™ blind-spot display, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror for an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway. Standard equipment to further enhance visibility on the 2013 Crosstour will also include re-shaped rear headrests, a rearview camera and an ExpandedView Drivers Mirror.
Standard Honda Crosstour convenience features include an automatic dimming rearview mirror, auto-on/off headlights, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and USB audio interface. Other available features on the 2013 Crosstour will include a hard-drive based navigation system, Pandora internet radio interface, XM satellite radio and an SMS text-to-speech function.
Sales, Accolades and Manufacturing History
First launched in 2009, and now available with both V6 and four-cylinder engines, the Crosstour remains one of the most versatile choices in the midsize crossover segment, and earned the distinction of J.D. Power and Associates "Highest Ranked Midsize Crossover/SUV in Initial Quality" in their 2011 Initial Quality Study SM (IQS). The Crosstour is produced at Hondas East Liberty Auto Plant in East Liberty, Ohio.
Dodge Dart

- Dodge Dart, 2013
The 2013 Dodge Dart redefines performance with Alfa Romeo DNA, fuel-efficient powertrains and Dodges passion for performance. The all-new Dodge Dart is a thoroughly modern vehicle thats fuel-efficient, beautifully designed and crafted, agile and fun-to-drive.
Loaded with innovative technology, class-leading safety features and clever functionality, the 2013 Dodge Dart sets a new standard in the compact car segment by offering unmatched personalization, roominess, style, functionality and fun-to-drive dynamics.
The 2013 Dodge Dart will be available in five trim levels: SE, SXT, Rallye, Limited and R/T. It will be built in the United States at Chrysler Groups Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Ill. Production of the 2013 Dodge Dart will begin in the second quarter of 2012.
Exterior
The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart boasts a timeless, stylish and distinctive exterior design. The car sports an athletic, sculpted, fluid and aesthetically agile appearance. The exterior design of the Dart conveys a level of visual drama and timeless surfaces that add excitement to the competitive compact sedan segment in the United States.
The Fiat Group-based Compact U.S. Wide (CUS-wide) architectures low, wide and long dimensions ensured a stable "body-in, wheels-out" stance and coupe-like silhouette. The CUS-wide platform allowed for accentuating the fender formations and pushing the wheels as far out to the corners as possible, creating a very stable look, which gave Dodge designers incredible opportunities for some very dramatic sculpturing. Designers visually stretched the skin of the car over the vehicle framework as if stretching nylon over a surface.
Once the basic design was in place, with dynamic lines and curves from every angle, designers inserted a little Dodge attitude into the mix. The face of the Dart was styled with the unmistakable Dodge split crosshair grille, but with a modern, sleek look that "floats" in the front fascia, giving the Dart a full-width mask that marks it as a Dodge.
The front of the 2013 Dodge Dart has been designed for smooth airflow around, above and below the car without compromising styling or engine cooling requirements. In addition, a lower radiator close-out panel is positioned below the front fascia. This not only contributes to the Darts lower front-end appearance, but also reduces drag while still allowing for an 8-inch curb clearance.
Dodge designers made attention to detail and precision craftsmanship a priority, and it is noticeable from every angle. Standard laser-braised roof welds, high-quality metal Daylight Opening (DLO) moldings painted piano black and standard projector headlamps are just a few examples of well-crafted features typically found on much more expensive classes of vehicles.
Tasteful, detailed accents add to the design of the Dodge Dart. Style lines on the hood lead the eye to the floating crosshair grille, while chrome accent spears below the projector headlamps and inboard of available projector fog lamps highlight the attention to detail.
The result is a compact sedan that blends exceptional proportions, "aero-dramatic" surfacing, world-class craftsmanship, modern technology, an exceptionally quiet cabin and an upscale feel in a package that is undeniably a Dodge.
Interior
Dodge designers focused on creating a modern blend of precision craftsmanship, state-of-the-art technology, exciting bursts of color and hand-sculpted shapes when designing the Darts interior, which is crafted with materials and technology typically found in more expensive vehicle segments. Starting with modern Dodge DNA and through the use of innovative ambient interior lighting, high-quality soft-touch materials and high-tech features, the 2013 Dodge Dart is loaded with cool amenities and unexpected delights for both drivers and passengers.
The Darts "driver-centric" layout is designed to put all controls within easy reach of the driver. Customizable displays and comfort-tuned seats are packaged in an exceptionally spacious, pleasing interior. Packaged in the footprint of a compact car, the 2013 Dodge Dart features the interior spaciousness of a mid-size sedan, and it boasts best-in-class hip and shoulder room.
Customization was key in the all-new Dodge Darts development, and with 12 exterior colors, 14 interior color and trim combinations, seven wheel options, three engine options and three transmissions, each Dodge Dart can be personalized by every buyer to fit their individual style. And the combinations are multiplied exponentially, as Mopar® also will offer more than 150 customization options and themed packages specifically developed for the Dart.
The high-tech centerpiece of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is the class-exclusive floating island bezel, which houses the segment-exclusive available 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) customizable gauge cluster display with light pipe surround that also houses the available class-exclusive Uconnect® Touch 8.4-inch touchscreen Media Center - the largest touchscreen in its class.
Thoughtful storage options throughout fit todays technology. The glove box easily conceals a stowed iPad; the center console features auxiliary jacks to plug in a wide variety of electronic devices, and thoughtful, inventive storage solutions, such as center console side pockets, are perfect for storing mobile phones, receipts, or pens and paper.
Lighting in all the right places provides drivers and passengers a warm, comfortable cockpit. Available "racetrack" lighting surrounds the floating island bezel. Ambient lighting for the door handles, map pockets, foot wells, glove box, storage bin and illuminated cup holders is both useful and provides a warm atmosphere inside the vehicle.
Three sophisticated, fuel-efficient and powerful engines
The 2013 Dodge Dart will be powered by three fuel-efficient, powerful, state-of-the-art four-cylinder engines that add to Darts fun-to-drive quotient.
Drivers can select from a new 160 horsepower Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter engine, a 160 horsepower 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir Intercooled Turbo engine and a new 184 horsepower Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir 2 four-cylinder engine. These three engines, combined with three transmission choices — six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or six-speed dual dry clutch (DDCT) transmission — redefine performance by providing the most diverse powertrain lineup in its class.
MultiAir technology delivers optimum combustion at any speed under all driving conditions by allowing direct and dynamic control of air intake and combustion. The result is up to a 15 percent increase in low engine rpm torque and a 7.5 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.
Engineered with passion
The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart was developed and engineered to exceed expectations for satisfaction, quality and reliability. From the world-class aerodynamic performance, to the agile, responsive driving experience, to items seemingly mundane like segment-leading heating and cooling performance that gives drivers and passengers the right temperatures in the right locations and a whisper-quiet interior, Dodge engineers kept the customer top of mind while developing every detail of the Dart.
Alfa Romeo DNA
The Dodge brands re-entry into the U.S. compact sedan segment is based off of the award-winning Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The Giulietta is renowned for satisfying the most demanding customers in terms of road-holding agility and safety, with exceptional driving dynamics. The Giulietta platform was lengthened and widened, creating a spacious compact sedan that meets the wants and needs of North American consumers.
The proven modular architecture allows multiple models to be built using the same basic underpinnings, resulting in improvements in quality and reliability, as well as reducing cost, development timing and tooling. The body structure of the Dart is comprised of 68 percent high-strength steel - hot stamped, high-strength and ultra-high-strength - resulting in an architecture that is lightweight, modern and solid.
The 2013 Dodge Dart features the proven, lightweight MacPherson strut front suspension, specifically tuned to minimize camber loss, resulting in more responsive steering and handling characteristics, improved ride quality and a reduction in road noise - all qualities drivers will appreciate.
A bi-link independent rear suspension enables European handling capability for those drivers who love to lean into corners and the smooth ride North American drivers covet.
World-class aerodynamics
The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart compact sedan was designed and engineered for world-class aerodynamic performance. With more than 600 hours in the wind tunnel during the Darts development and using technology typically found on more expensive vehicles, Dodge engineers and designers looked at every aspect from the ground up to optimize the aerodynamic performance of the Dart.
The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is the first Dodge vehicle to use an active grille shutter system. The system automatically stops airflow through the lower intake at highway speeds when less engine cooling is required and aerodynamic drag is most significant. When closed, the shutter system enhances aerodynamic performance by redirecting airflow around the front of the vehicle and down the sides, rather than through it. The active grille shutter system will open or close automatically based upon engine coolant temperature and vehicle speed.
Underbody panels run stem to stern on the Dodge Dart, covering the majority of the lower vehicle from the front fascia to the rear fascia. Constructed of mold-in-color (MIC) black composite, the panels both enhance the aerodynamic performance and also block road noise.
Tire spats located forward of the front and rear tires were engineered to function as mini air dams and were optimized for shape and ground clearance, adding to the underbody efficiency in conjunction with the underbody panels.
In the design and engineering of the 2013 Dodge Dart, no aerodynamic detail was too small. Mirror design, the notch angle at the top of the header of the backlight to the trailing edge of the decklid and even the tail lamp applique shape and rear corners were all designed and engineered for optimal aero performance. An integrated decklid spoiler incorporates a trailing edge shape for cleaner airflow separation in the rear portion of the vehicle, which optimizes the air wake.
Class-leading Safety Features
The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart was engineered with 60 safety and security features to ensure drivers and passengers peace of mind when traveling. The Dodge Dart starts with a strong foundation, a body that has a high-strength steel content of 68 percent, one of the highest in the industry, and then adds both active and passive safety features. Driver and passenger safety features include 10 standard airbags, which is unsurpassed in the segment and include: dual-stage adaptive venting front driver and passenger air bags, front-seat-mounted driver and passenger pelvic and thorax air bags, two rear-seat-mounted pelvic air bags, front driver and passenger knee air bags and all-row side-curtain air bags. BMW M6 Convertible

- BMW M6 Convertible, 2013
Out of a passion for elite performance and an appreciation of exclusive style comes the allure for which M Automobiles are renowned - and which can now be experienced in two new forms. The new BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible offer top-class performance attributes and an ambience defined by luxury and innovative comfort features. In so doing, the high-performance sports cars developed by BMW M GmbH exude a level of poise and assurance unmatched in the premium segment of the executive class - and reflected authentically in the expressive design of the two models. The precise interplay of their high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and 412 kW/560 hp, a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, Active M Differential, model-specific chassis technology, an ideal weight balance and optimised aerodynamic properties serves up a particularly full-blooded M experience.
The conceptual harmony characteristic of M Automobiles also incorporates the specific features of the two models body structures. The new BMW M6 Coupe has a dynamically contoured, lightweight roof made from carbon fibre- reinforced plastic. The new BMW M6 Convertible, meanwhile, is fitted with a high-quality soft-top, complete with eye-catching "fin" styling and fully automatic opening mechanism. All of which allows the driver and passengers to enjoy the dynamic performance of a high-performance sports car in harmony with the natural forces of the sun and wind.
The motor sport technology in the new BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible paves the way for imposing performance on the race track, but also treats the driver to a captivating driving experience on everyday journeys from A to B. The BMW M6 Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, the BMW M6 Convertible in 4.3 seconds. However, the dynamic character of both models is also defined by their mid-range agility, the precision of their turn-in and traction when accelerating out of corners, their precisely controllable handling under intense lateral forces and their stopping capability. The latest innovation designed to optimise the handling of the new BMW M6 Coupe and the new BMW M6 Convertible in highly dynamic driving situations are the M carbon-ceramic brakes, offered as an option for the first time.
Another attribute unmatched by any rival is the leap forward in efficiency that comes with the new editions of the two high-performance sports cars. The new BMW M6 Coupe records average fuel consumption of 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres (28.5 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 232 grams per kilometre in the EU test cycle. The equivalent values for the new BMW M6 Convertible are 10.3 l/100 km (27.4 mpg imp) and 239 g/km. Despite a 10 per cent increase in engine output and a 30 per cent jump in peak torque - to 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) - fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by over 30 per cent in both cases compared with their respective predecessors.
Design: athletic aura, powerfully taut surfaces, elegant lines.
Classical proportions, the sporty yet elegant lines of the BMW 6-Series and the familiar design language of BMW M Automobiles form the foundations for the eloquent body design of the BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible. Powerfully taut surfaces and precise contours underline the athletic aura of the two models, while standard-fitted Adaptive LED Headlights accentuate their progressive character. In addition, hallmark M styling cues add details which are influenced directly by technical considerations - such as the cooling air required, chassis geometry and aerodynamics - and thus further highlight the cars outstanding performance attributes.
Both models are fitted with 19-inch M light-alloy wheels as standard. The forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in a two-tone finish, while the optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels hint at reduced weight with their five intricate double-spokes.
Dynamic contours, lightweight material: the carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof of the BMW M6 Coupe.
Like its predecessor, the roof of the new BMW M6 Coupe is made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic as standard. The dark colouring of the roof gives the two-door cars silhouette an extremely elongated look, which is further emphasised by a dynamic recess in the centre of the roof. The use of the lightweight material for the roof allows the cars centre of gravity to be lowered, enhancing agility. BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim (standard) draws attention to this optimised weight balance, its dark colouring covering the side window borders (or the waistline in the case of the BMW M6 Convertible) and the base and lower section of the aerodynamically optimised M exterior mirror caps.
The exclusive looks of the new BMW 6-Series Convertible are underlined by the "fin" architecture of the high-quality soft-top roof. Projecting into the rear section, the fins accentuate the cars dynamically sweeping silhouette. The heated, vertical glass rear window, which is situated just behind the rear seats, retracts independently of the soft-top itself. The automatic opening and closing process for the roof can be activated both at a standstill and while on the move at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) using a button on the centre console. The optional Comfort Access allows the roof to be opened or closed by pressing the remote control button on the car key. It takes the roof 19 seconds to open and 24 seconds to close again.
The engine: high-revving V8 with M TwinPower Turbo technology.
The new BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible showcase their individual style with a raft of unique styling touches and tweaks to the character of the driving experience. But they draw the output required to serve up their inspirational performance from the same source: a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, longitudinally mounted at the front of the car, whose power is channelled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic. This powertrain combines construction features taken directly from motor sport with innovations developed under the banner of Efficient Dynamics. Its globally unparalleled package of technology comprises two turbochargers working according to the twin-scroll principle, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Direct Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-Vanos continuously variable camshaft control.
The unmistakable, typically M performance characteristics of the 4.4-litre powerplant are defined by its lightning-quick responses and forceful, linear power delivery maintained into the higher reaches of the rev range. Indeed, peak torque of 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) is on tap between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. The V8 achieves its maximum output of 412 kW/560 hp between 6,000 and 7,000 rpm and can spin on to 7,200 rpm. All of which means the rev band available in the new models to generate maximum performance is almost three times wider than that of the engine powering their predecessors.
Harnessing the high output to dynamic effect: the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic.
Tuned seamlessly to the performance characteristics of the V8 engine, the M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic converts the powerplants impressive thrust extremely effectively into rapid acceleration. This capability is underpinned by the DCT design principle, which effectively combines two gearboxes in one housing - yet with virtually no size or weight penalty over a conventional manual transmission.
M DCT Drivelogic offers the driver three different shift programs, both in automated mode (D) and in manual mode (S). In addition, the electronics also provide a Launch Control function ensuring unbeatable acceleration from a standing start, Low Speed Assistance for easier low-speed operation, and the Auto Start-Stop function for increased efficiency. The new BMW M6 Coupe and the new BMW M6 Convertible are equipped as standard with a newly developed M leather steering wheel, complete with multifunction buttons and fixed gearshift paddles.
Active M Differential delivers outstanding traction in dynamic driving situations.
The new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Convertible also impress by offering optimum traction in tricky road and weather conditions and under dynamic acceleration out of corners. Working behind the scenes to this end is an innovative variable locking differential in the rear differential.
The Active M Differential allows the engines power to be split precisely and quickly between the left and right rear wheel according to the requirements of the driving situation at any particular moment. An electronically controlled multi-plate limited-slip differential helps to reduce the rotational speed differences between the rear wheels, which is needed to optimise traction. The Active M Differential control unit is linked up to the DSC stability control system, allowing every driving situation to be precisely analysed and a loss of traction at one wheel to be detected at an early stage. The locking effect generated in response can be varied between 0 and 100 per cent.
M-specific chassis technology, Dynamic Damper Control, M Servotronic, DSC with M Dynamic Mode.
The chassis of the new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Convertible has been developed to M specification and therefore combines outstanding performance attributes with the comfort-enhancing features drivers appreciate on an everyday basis. Like the integral rear axle, whose subframes are bolted rigidly to the body, the double-wishbone front axle boasts specific kinematics and newly developed components made from forged aluminium. Chassis mountings using large panels at the front and rear axle ensure dynamic forces are passed evenly through to the body. Through enthusiastically driven corners, this helps to noticeably reduce the roll movements triggered by bumps in the road surface. Both the construction of the chassis and its bespoke tuning for each model are defined by in-depth expertise from the race track and have been optimised during extensive testing on the NürburgringsNordschleife circuit.
The standard equipment of both models also includes electronically controlled dampers. The M-specific Dynamic Damper Control system adjusts damping force electrohydraulically to provide the required responses for the driving situation at hand and fulfil the wishes of the driver. A choice of three settings allows drivers to adjust the damper characteristics to their needs and preferences.
The hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering ensures unbeatable precision and a high degree of comfort. This system has a variable ratio, which enhances straightline stability and reduces the number of steering wheel turns required when parking and turning off a road. The likewise standard Servotronic speedsensitive power assistance is specially tuned to M specification and enables drivers to choose a personal configuration with the help of three set-up options.
In addition to applying brake impulses and reducing engine output to stabilise the car, the DSC stability control system of the two high-performance sports cars also employs the services of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake Assistant, the Brake Drying function and Start-Off Assistant. M Dynamic Mode (MDM) can be activated to override the basic setting by pressing the DSC button. By raising the intervention thresholds of DSC, this mode makes it easier to move off on snow or loose sand with slightly spinning driven wheels. MDM mode also paves the way for the familiar M self-steering response. "DSC Off" mode can likewise be activated at the touch of a button.
An innovation designed to deliver precise handling: M carbon-ceramic brakes.
The latest version of the compound high-performance braking system helps give the new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Convertible outstanding stopping power. Its stand-out features include even lower weight, excellent feel and fade-free performance even under heavy loads. The diameter of the inner-vented and perforated brake discs is 400 millimetres at the front and 396 millimetres at the rear. The six-piston fixed-calliper brakes at the front axle - painted dark blue metallic and complete with the M logo - are radially bolted to the pivot bearing.
As an alternative to the standard compound high-performance braking system, M carbon-ceramic brakes make their debut in the new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Convertible. They are available in conjunction with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and feature brake discs measuring 410 millimetres in diameter at the front axle and 396 millimetres at the rear. Made from a new type of carbon-fibre compound ceramic, the discs boast even greater resistance to heat and combine this with significantly reduced rotating masses. The innovative material also displays exceptional resistance to wear.
The optional M carbon-ceramic system also sees six-piston fixed-calliper brakes at the front teaming up with single-piston floating-calliper brakes at the rear. The callipers can be identified by their special gold-coloured paint finish.
Lightweight design, seamless occupant protection.
An intelligent blend of materials also gives the body structure impressive strength coupled with extremely low weight. As with the use of CFRP for the roof of the new BMW M6 Coupe, the choice of materials for all other body components slots into the all-round lightweight design strategy. The doors and bonnet of the two high-performance sports cars are made from aluminium, the front side panels from thermoplastic. In addition, their boot lids and - in the case of the BMW M6 Convertible - also the roof cover are made from the glass-fibre composite material SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound).
A weight-to-power ratio of 3.3 kg/hp for the new BMW M6 Coupe and 3.5 kg/hp for the new BMW M6 Convertible is a significant improvement over the predecessor models.
Robust load-path structures, large and precisely defined deformation zones and highly efficient restraint systems provide the basis for a high level of passive safety in both models. The safety equipment fitted as standard includes front and side airbags, side curtain head airbags for both rows of seats in the new BMW M6 Coupe, and front airbags and head-thorax side airbags integrated into the seat frames of the new BMW M6 Convertible. The soft-top model also benefits from roll-over bars made from high-strength aluminium. Both models also come with three-point inertia-reel seat belts on all seats, belt force limiters and belt tensioners for the front seats and ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear.
The two high-performance models are designed as four-seaters, and space in the rear compartment has increased substantially compared with the predecessor models. The load capacity of the new BMW M6 Coupe stands at 460 litres. The new BMW M6 Convertible, meanwhile, can accommodate 300 litres of luggage in the boot with the soft-top down and 350 litres with it closed.
Individual set-up configuration, two M Drive buttons on the steering wheel.
Also contributing to the familiar M feeling is the model-specific interior design whose stand-out features include newly developed M sports seats and an M-specific cockpit, along with buttons to adjust the DSC mode, engine performance characteristics, damper mapping, M Servotronic responses and shift program. Individually configured settings can be saved by means of two M Drive buttons on the steering wheel and called up as required.
The BMW Head Up-Display with M-specific information along with an extensive range of other driver assistance systems from BMW ConnectedDrive, such as Park Distance Control, rear-view camera, High Beam Assistant, Speed Limit Info, Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Surround View and BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition. The choice of equipment options also includes M multifunction seats, the navigation system Professional and the Bang & Olufsen High End Surround Sound System.

2012 Ford B MAX

Information Specification Modification Image Review 2012 ford b max
The new Ford B-MAX is now available to order priced from £12,995 to £18,895. Fords latest model is based on the existing Ford Fiesta platform and is available in three trim levels - Studio, Zetec and Titanium.Featuring Fords Easy Access Door System, the B-MAX has traditional hinged front doors and a pair of sliding rear doors that do without the need for the central pillar structure.
When both doors are opened fully, the B-MAX offers an opening that is more than 1.5m wide. Both front and rear doors can be opened independently.
Entry-level Studio models are offered with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a five-speed manual transmission. Standard specification includes electric windows, electric door mirrors, remote central locking and front, side, knee and curtain airbags.
The Zetec is available with a choice of three petrols and one diesel engine including the new 1.5-litre TDCi and 100bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost. Buyers also have a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The Zetec also comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, manual air-conditioning, a leather trimmed steering wheel and a DAB digital radio as standard.

The new B-Max will slot below all of those, and will be based on the Fiesta. Itll be a five-door-two front doors, two rear sliders, and a rear hatch-and should seat five. Ford promises that its worked on packaging with the new model to maximize space and versatility.
That promise extends to the cars trickest feature: it has no B-pillars. The front doors latch to the floor and ceiling of the car, while the rear doors are anchored at the floor and to the slider that runs down the back of the car. As a result, Ford promises that the car will have easier ingress and egress, as well as a little bit more room when the doors are closed.

The B-max, which is just 110mm longer than a Fiesta, also has another ace up its sleeve: itll be available with the punchy, economical 1.0-litre Ecoboost, which has impressed CAR in the Focus. It’ll be available in 100PS and 120PS versions, the latter returning 57.6mpg.
Other engines include a new 75PS 1.5-litre diesel, capable of 68.9mpg and 109g/km. The 95PS 1.6 TDCI, and 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrols will also be offered.
Company executives are peeved that Fords brand equity still lags Volkswagens, and RVs on cars like the Mondeo are pegged to anvil-off-a-cliff depreciators like the Insignia, rather than the floatier Passat. The hope is that, long-term, innovative cars like the B-max will help lift Ford above the shark pool of Korean, French and other rivals. source:carbuyer.co.uk,automobilemag.com,carmagazine.co.uk
